How to Install Theme #back to top

Upload via WordPress Admin

  1. Download the ZIP package from Marketplace and Unzip it.
  2. Within the unzipped folder you will see a file named flownews.zip - this is the Themes itself.
  3. Log into your WordPress Dashboard and click on Appearence->Themes.
  4. Next click on ADD New then click on Upload Theme.
  5. Click Browse then locate the file named flownews.zip and click Install Now.
  6. After the theme has installed click on Activate and you are all set! New Theme is now installed!
  7. After activation active all plugins required as reported in message below

Import demo content#back to top

Before install demo content make you sure that you have actived all plugins required and recomanded.

Import our demos is very easy. Needs only 1 click

  1. Go to Flownews Import Demo
  2. Choose your favorite demo and click on Import
  3. Confirm Import (Press Yes, Import on popup) and wait some minutes
  4. Done. Demo imported

Install theme Child#back to top

The installation of the Flownews child theme is run the same as the main theme. So before you need to install flownews theme.

  1. Open the ZIP package downloaded and Unzip it.
  2. Within the unzipped folder you will see a file named flownews-child.zip - this is the Child Theme itself.
  3. Log into your WordPress Dashboard and click on Appearence->Themes.
  4. Next click on ADD New then click on Upload Theme.
  5. Click Browse then locate the file named flownews-child.zip and click Install Now.
  6. After the theme has installed click on Activate and you are all set! Child Theme is now installed!

Now you can add your custom css via wordpress editor appearance -> editor or via FTP.
Also if you want change php code of one determinate php file you need to create a correct path.
So for example: you want edit function inside element header.php (elements/header.php) you need to create a folder named elements and inside this folder create a file header.php

Update Theme#back to top

We recomanded you to update theme for get many features and fix bug discovered. Update of theme doesn't create any problem but for better security we recomanded to backup your site before update theme.

Updating the theme

  1. Update via Envato Market WordPress Plugin

If you have made customization in flownews theme you need before to update save this customization and reapply after update process

Update via Envato Market WordPress Plugin

To receive wordpress notification every time the new theme update is ready, you have to install the Envato Market WordPress Plugin. It allows to install WordPress themes and plugins purchased from ThemeForest & CodeCanyon by connecting with the Envato Market API using a secure OAuth personal token. Fully documentation of this plugin is available here

Installing Envato Market Wordpress Plugin

  1. Download the envato-market.zip and unzip the package.
  2. Navigate to Plugins section, click Add New Upload and install the plugin from the zip package.
  3. Activate the plugin installed.
  4. Click the Envato Market menu in WordPress and connect to the API. Documentation about API Key available here.

Update via WordPress Panel

  1. Log into your WordPress Dashboard and click on Appearence->Themes.
  2. active another theme, for example TwnetySixteen
  3. remove flownews theme
  4. Next click on ADD New then click on Upload Theme.
  5. Click Browse then locate the file named flownews.zip and click Install Now.
  6. After the theme has installed click on Activate and you are all set! New Theme Update is now installed!

Before starting all description, if you have installed and active WP Bakery we advise you to active the WP Bakery editor inside post.
To make it going to WP Bakery -> Role Manager -> Post types -> Custom -> and select post and page.

Inside Page there is available a Layout options for each page

Normal Page #back to top

In each page there are some options to select to build your page.

  • Title Page: if setted on NO the title page will be hidden.
  • Layout: you can choose if you want Normal Page Page or if you want a blog page Blog
  • Sidebar: you can choose if you don't want sibebar or you want sidebar left or right.
  • Sidebar Name: You can select what sidebar load inside the page. You can create a custom sidebar. For understand how make it click here

Sidebar #back to top

In each page there is an option "sidebar" where you can choose if you don't want sibebar or you want sidebar left or right. Also you can create a custom sidebar via option panel. It's very easy you need following it:

  1. Flow News -> Sidebar -> Create Your Custom Sidebar
  2. Add your sidebar name
  3. Save Changes
  4. Now you custom sidebar is ready to use on appearance -> widget

You can create infinite sidebar, you need only to press add more and repeat the step from point 2.

Blog Page #back to top

Going to page. Inside each page there is a field named: Layout Type. Select it on Blog
When you select Blog, will be open a new option grouped by Query Blog name.



With Query Blog fields you can create your query for gets post in blog page. So field available are:

  1. Numbers posts to load / Number posts per page:: Add int number value. Examples: 8. Leave empty for get default posts setted in general wordpress setting
  2. Category: you can select your categories where gets the posts. Multiple select is allowed
  3. Order By: you can choose your order by from none, comment count, views, date, modified, title and rand (random)
  4. Order Dir: you can choose from ASC (ascending order from lowest to highest values: 1, 2, 3; a, b, c) and DESC (descending order from highest to lowest values: 3, 2, 1; c, b, a) order.

Blog Layout #back to top

Blog layout is grouped by Blog Style name. With Blog Style fields you can create your blog layout. So field available are:

  1. Blog Layout Type: grid or masonry
  2. Blog Layout Style: you can choose one from five style available
  3. Blog Columns: you can choose your columns number (1 to 4 columns).
  4. Pagination: you can choose your pagination type. You can deactive pagination (off), you can active pagination (on, numeric pagination) or you can choose load more pagination (yes with load more)
Also you can select the sidebar like you can set on normal page. Pay attention sidebar is allowed only for 1 e 2 columns. Are deactivate if you select 3 and 4 columns.

Page Templates #back to top

Go to page. In Page Attribute you can find Template field. And you have available 2 template available.

  1. Default Template: is a default template where you can use all metabox below the editor.
  2. Full Width: this field is created when you want a full width template. All metabox option is not active and you can use it when you want a template at 100% (so you haven't any container). Is most advise if you want build your layout using a WP Bakery row (in case you want controll all via WP Bakery row).

Mega Menu #back to top

With mega menu you can create a mega menu of categories.
  1. Go to appearence -> Menus -> Create new menu
  2. Now click on Screen Options (on Top of Page)
  3. Check CSS Classes field
  4. Add on Menu your category Item.
  5. Now inside the category item added there is a field named: "CSS Classes (optional)"
  6. In this field you can add this class:
    1. mega-menu: if you want get category posts
    2. mega-menu-carousel: if you want make a carousel of category posts
  7. Save your menu

Before starting all description, if you have installed and active WP Bakery we advise you to active the WP Bakery editor inside post.

In each post there is an option "Post Layout Style" where you can choose your layout post. There are available 3 differents layout style. If you change this field from default value (default (get option setted on panel)) you override setted on post settings setted on option panel.

Format Post #back to top

Formats post available are: standard, image, video, audio.

Format Video
A correct setting for format video is:
  1. Select video on Format
  2. Add url video inside relative area
  3. Add a featured image as a cover of video
Format Audio
A correct setting for format audio is:
  1. Select audio on Format
  2. Add url video inside relative area
  3. Add a featured image as a cover of audio

Sidebar #back to top

In each post there is an option "sidebar" where you can choose if you don't want sibebar or you want sidebar left or right. Also you can create a custom sidebar via option panel. It's very easy you need following it:

  1. Flow News -> Sidebar -> Create Your Custom Sidebar
  2. Add your sidebar name
  3. Save Changes
  4. Now you custom sidebar is ready to use on appearance -> widget

Category #back to top

You can select some options for each category. You can choose all settings category on options panel but if you want you can override it in each category.

You can set category option on Posts -> Categories -> create a new category. Goto in this category and now you have a panel FlowNews Category Options where you can choose your settings category.

  1. Sidebar Position: Left, Right, None
  2. Category Layout: Layout 1, Layout 2, Layout 3, Layout 4, Layout 5
  3. Columns: 1, 2, 3 ,4
  4. Layout Type: grid, masonry
  5. Category Description: show, hidden

Top Content #back to top

In each page/post there is available a top content named Flownews Top Content section where you can add a top content before starting content. You can choose one from six differents style.

You can active top content section setting this field Top Content Section on ON After activation will be show other options:
  1. Top Content Layout Style: you need to choose one of six layout available.
  2. Query Top Content: you can create your query top content:
    1. Category: you can select your categories where gets the posts. Multiple select is allowed
    2. Order By: you can choose your order by from none, comment count, views, date, modified, title and rand (random)
    3. Order Dir: you can choose from ASC (ascending order from lowest to highest values: 1, 2, 3; a, b, c) and DESC (descending order from highest to lowest values: 3, 2, 1; c, b, a) order.

You can create header post with 5 differents layout. Is optimized to use on header top content, so we advise you to use it in row without any columns.

General TAB
  1. Header Display Name: field for write your header display name. It will be show only in backend.
  2. Type: select your type. Types available: type 1, type 2, type 3, type 4 (carousel), type 5
  3. Date Format: select your favorite date format.
Query TAB
  1. Source:
    1. Wordpress Post: if select gets all wordpress post
      1. All Posts/Sticky posts: select if you want normal post or only sticky posts
      2. Categories: check your cagetegory/categories to gets posts.
    2. Wordpress Post: if select gets all wordpress post
      1. Select Post Type Source: check your custom post type to gets posts.
      2. Categories Posts Type: Write Categories slug separate by comma(,) for example: cat-slug1, cat-slug2, cat-slug3 (Leave empty for all categories)
